Khare Research Group

Welcome to Khare Research Group in the Department of Aerospace Engineering at the University of Cincinnati (UC). We focus on discovering and enhancing the fundamental understanding of mechanisms and processes (both physical and chemical) underlying non-reacting and reacting multiphase fluid dynamic phenomena applicable to contemporary energy conversion and propulsion devices operating in subsonic, supersonic and hypersonic flow regimes. The research is accomplished using high-fidelity numerical simulations (LES and DNS), theoretical modeling and data analyses on an in-house high-performance computing (HPC) cluster. Currently active focus areas include, non-equilibrium hypersonic flows, DNS of liquid atomization processes, LES of spray combustion phenomenon and associated thermoacoustic instabilities. In addition to contributing and improving the state of knowledge, the large data sets produced from the numerical simulations are also used to develop theories and surrogate models using machine learning techniques. Dr. Khare also serves as the chair of the faculty advisory committee of the Advanced Research Computing (ARC) center, an initiative that he co-founded with UC's Office of Research. Latest news from our group can be found at here.

Principal Investigator
Dr. Prashant Khare is an Associate Professor of Aerospace Engineering in the College of Engineering and Applied Science at the University of Cincinnati (UC). He also serves as the Associate Department Head and the Program Chair of Aerospace Engineering at UC. He earned his Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering from Georgia Tech and M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Penn State University, before joining UC in 2017. He teaches undergraduate and graduate courses on thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, combustion, machine learning and gas dynamics.
